Curator’s note

I'm incredibly honoured to be asked to contribute to 2022's edition of The Birthday Book! The story I've written (pages 124-129) is fictional, but is based on real lived experiences of queer folks in Singapore.

Synopsis

57 people tell stories of life in a city they love.

Artists, cartoonists, poets, academics, engineers, entrepreneurs, advocates and everything in-between share their views of what it means to restart: at home, in their community, and for Singapore itself.

Every year, The Birthday Collective assembles together a book with contributions from folks in Singapore across all walks of life. The result is a collection of stories — some fictional, and some non-fictional — that represent the diverse and evolving nation.

About the author

The Birthday Collective aims to be a “Brain, Heart and Hand Trust” for Singapore as it deals with an increasingly unpredictable and complex external environment, and increasingly acute domestic constraints. The external and internal challenges pose risks but also opportunities, if we remain optimistic and are creative in our approaches.
