Synopsis

In this wide-ranging anthology, Margaret Reynolds brings together the work of 32 women from Britain, continental Europe, and the Americas to express the depth and complexity of lesbian literature. In coming out stories about cross-dressing, vampire tales, science fiction, parody, and romance, these writers challenge traditional forms of expression and subject matter in an extraordinarily rich and varied discourse to give voice to the lesbian imagination.

This collection features the work of: Kathy Acker, Ann Bannon, Nicole Brossard, Colette, Frances Gapper, Radclyffe Hall, Sara Maitland, Joan Nestle, Jayne Anne Phillips, Dorothy Strachey, Dorothy Allison, Djuna Barnes, Rebecca Brown, Isak Dinesen, Jewelle Gomez, Sarah One Jewett, Katherine Mansfield, Anaïs Nin, Jane Rule, Renée Vivien, Margaret Atwood, Alison Bechdel, Pat Califia, Emma Donoghue, H.D., Anna Livia, Merrill Mushroom, Beth Nugent, Gertrude Stein, Jeanette Winterson, Monique Wittig, and Virginia Woolf.
